CLARKSDALE – Future nurses by way of Coahoma Community College recently attended and excelled during a state nursing convention. Three CCC Practical Nursing (PN) students received awards during the Mississippi LPN Association state convention hosted April 13-15 in Biloxi, MS.
Themed “Exploring the Thrilling Profession of LPNs in Mississippi”, the convention was attended by students, instructors and other LPNs from various healthcare settings across the state.
PN student Jessica Shook (Clarksdale, MS) placed first in the “Name That Body Part” competition. In addition, students Georgia Dill (Clarksdale, MS) and Lindsey Striplin (Clarksdale, MS) placed second in the Poster Board competition.
“I am ecstatic about our students accomplishments at the convention,” said CCC PN Lead Instructor Chequitia Dixon. “They have represented Coahoma Community College and the Practical Nursing Program well.”
Founded in 1970, the Mississippi LPN Association, Incorporated (MLPNA) is the professional organization representing the 13,000 LPNs in Mississippi. MLPNA is a constituent of the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses, Incorporated (NFLPN). The organization’s mission is to nurture growth of the LPN profession to aid in enhancing Mississippi’s healthcare.
CCC’s Practical Nursing program is a 12-month certificate program that prepares students to assist in providing general nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, or dentist. This program prepares the graduate for successful completion of the NCLEX-PN® and to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
