CLARKSDALE – With the kick off of Black History Month this week, Coahoma Community College’s Black History committee has introduced a fun, educational activity to get Tigers involved.

C:\fakepath\Scavenger2.jpgThrough out the month of February, the committee is hosting a “Black History Scavenger Hunt”, themed “Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American History”.

“We’re encouraging all of our students to participate in our Black History Scavenger Hunt,” said Black History Month Chair Vera Griffin. “Not only is the contest educational, but it’s also an opportunity to win $100.”

According to Griffin, each Monday there will be five pieces of paper with Black History clues posted in five different buildings across campus.

Each clue will contain some information about an African American hero and, at the bottom of the paper, there will be a question that students must answer, as well as a clue that suggests where the next clue is located.

Five keys will be given away each week to the first five students who answer all of the questions correctly. If the students choose to work together as a group, then the group will receive one key.

Students can receive a key each week increasing their chance of winning the $100 prize.

At noon, Feb. 26, the contest will conclude with students attempting to open a locked box containing $100 with the keys they’ve received.

The first clue is located in Whiteside Hall.
