CLARKSDALE – The verdict is in—Coahoma Community College’s Fit for Life Initiative has named the English Department as the fittest department on campus!
The designation was named following the Fit for Life Departmental Challenge, hosted through the month of April. It encouraged faculty and staff to come out each evening to walk on the Fit for Life Fitness Trial, made possible through a grant funded by the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
Each day the total number of miles walked was recorded to determine which department was the most active.
CCC English Instructors David Jones, Wanda Lee, and Robert Rockett reportedly walked more than 180 miles combined during the month.
CCC English Chair Vera Griffin said she’s proud of her instructors’ commitment and dedication in making their department shine.
“I’m very proud of my department,” said Griffin. “Not only are we one of the most cooperative departments on campus, but we’re now also the fittest.”
In addition to bragging rights, Jones, Lee and Rockett also received gift cards.
CCC’s Fit for Life initiative was constructed to foster a campus culture of health and wellness while simultaneously enhancing the quality of life for students and employees through promotional health activities. The program is designed to motivate students, faculty and staff to make healthier lifestyle choices.
