CLARKSDALE—Tiger Nation paused for an evening of elegance Thursday night to formally crown its new Mr. and Miss Coahoma Community College during its annual Coronation.

Themed "A Royal Occasion of Black and White", the event was highlighted by the crowning of Mr. and Miss CCC 2016-17 Royce Williams (Cleveland, MS) and Cortise Brown (Jackson, MS), who will serve as ambassadors of the student body during the upcoming school term.

The night also featured CCC’s royal gentlemen, elegantly dressed in black tuxedos, along with royal ladies, who were adorned in complementing black gowns who will serve as representatives of organizations and auxiliaries on campus that comprise the High Court, the Higher Court, the Highest Court and the Royal Court.

Brown has already made history, as she will become the first Miss CCC to participate the Miss Mississippi pageant.

“It is a privilege and an honor to officially accept the role of Miss Coahoma Community College,” she said. “This has been a life changing experience, and I am forever honored and grateful.”

Williams, who was encouraged to pursue the title of Mr. CCC by family and friends, said he is looking forward to responsibility.

“Thank you Tiger Nation for this opportunity you’ve given me,” he said. “With God and supportive friends and family, I know that I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me.”

Turning in their crowns were Mr. and Miss CCC 2015-2016 Anfernee Morgan (Cleveland, MS) and Kezia Walker (Clarksdale, MS).

“This is a very emotional day for me,” said Walker, who’ll be attending the University of Mississippi next fall. “This will be a page that I will never tear out of my memory book. … I will always cherish my time here at CCC—thank you for sharing this moment with me.”

Morgan, who plans to attend Morehouse University, said he’s matured during his time at CCC.

“This last year has been at great one. … Coahoma is a place where I have grown as a young man,” he said. “Thank you Tiger Nation for trusting and believing in me, and giving me the opportunity to serve you.”
