CLARKSDALE – If you were a 2015 graduate from one of Coahoma Community College’s Health Sciences long-term programs, then congratulations—you’ve passed your certification or national board exams!

CCC’s Division of Health Sciences recently announced that every one of its 2015 graduates have passed their national board or certification test given after completion of their respective programs. The tests, administered to ensure that the graduates are competent and ready to enter the workforce, are vital to the Division’s maintenance of state and national accreditation standards.

"A 100 percent passing rate by students on board exams or certification tests serves as indisputable evidence of the caliber of students in our programs as well as to the effective instruction that students receive from our instructors,” said CCC President Dr. Valmadge Towner. “Our perfect passing rate also verifies that we provide our students with support, opportunities and challenges that position students to perform well on board and certification exams. We are thrilled for our students, staff and supporters of our health sciences programs."

While each of the programs have done well in the past, CCC Dean of Health Sciences Beverly Overton said it’s the first time all of the programs have simultaneously had a perfect record.

“Once I realized that every students who had graduated from the programs had passed their boards or received their certifications, I was ecstatic. ….We all were really excited,” said Overton. “This is a testament to the hard work of the students and to the instructors and staff who care and work with the students to make them successful.”

Programs offered by the Health Sciences division include: Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Practical Nursing (PN), Polysomnography (Sleep Technology), Paramedic, and Respiratory Care.

The recent graduates of the ADN program boasted a 100 percent pass rate on their NCLEX-RN, and all PN graduates successfully passed their NCLEX-PN.

In addition, graduates from CCC’s Polysomnography and Respiratory Care programs have passed their Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) and Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRT) certifications respectively.

While CCC’s Paramedic program did not have a graduating class in 2015, it’s most recent graduates in Dec. 2014 also achieved a perfect pass rate on their National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam.
