Health Sciences Scholarship Funding

The Mississippi Board of Nursing has awarded the Health Science division almost $20,000 in scholarship funding. The agency gifted the Associate Degree Nursing program $12,000 for students matriculating from the LPN program to the RN program. The Practical Nursing department received about $7,900.

Beverly Overton, dean of the Health Science division, said the gifts will assist in retaining and graduating students. It will also be used to help pay students’ program expenses because many of them are not eligible for Pell grants or have limited Pell. They also provide their own expenses for travel, textbooks and other needs.

“As the dean for Health Sciences, I am very appreciative for the money given to Coahoma Community College for nursing students by the Board,” she said.

“The goal of the Health Science Division is to supply quality healthcare providers for the Mississippi Delta and beyond. At the Board of Nursing meeting, I expressed to the executive director and members, the college’s gratitude for the money, and voiced the students’ appreciation as well.”
