CLARKSDALE — Students, and their parents, that will be new to Coahoma Community College this fall will be able to ease the tension and calm their nerves over two, fun-filled days during CCC’s 2016 Freshman and Transfer Orientation “My CCC: My Chance, My Choice, My Community”.

Orientation, designed specifically for the first-time freshman, provides information to ease the transition into college life and introduce the goals, mission, policies, admission requirements, and programs of study available at CCC. Open to both students and their parents, this year’s event will be held Aug. 1-2 on CCC’s main campus.

While not mandatory, Director of Enrollment and Student Services Karen Woods-Done encourages all new Tigers and their parents to attend.

“Orientation at Coahoma is one of the keys to overall student success,” said Done. “Not only does it help with some of those initial feelings of anxiety, but it also provides helpful information on the student experience inside and outside of the classroom.”

This year’s event will kick off at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, with registration followed by a day of informational sessions, campus tours, team building exercises and other fun activities.

Tuesday, the event will wrap-up with future Tigers receiving a rundown of the registration process and registering for classes.

Parents will also be given the opportunity to get in on the action with special orientation sessions designed to address issues and concerns they may have, as well as the opportunity to stay overnight to get a feel of CCC’s campus life and where their college student will be living for the next several weeks.

By the end of the event, Done hopes to have shown students and parents why CCC is the right choice.

“Orientation at CCC is the time for our future students to learn our campus better, to meet other incoming students and a great opportunity for us to get to know the students who will help mold and shape CCC for the next two years,” Done said.

CCC’s Fall 2016 semester will kick off Monday, Aug. 15. Meanwhile, students can continue to register online on CCC’s website, www.coahomacc.edu, until the close of the registration period, Aug. 26.

New and current Tigers will also have the opportunity to register at a special “one-stop shop” registration scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11; and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 on CCC’s main campus in the Pinnacle.

For more information or questions about online registration or admission requirements, contact CCC’s Office of Admission at (662) 621-4696 or by e-mail at admissions@coahomacc.edu.
