CLARKSDALE – Downtown Clarksdale was painted Maroon and White Monday morning as Coahoma Community College hosted its final of a series of Registration Rallies.

All this month, CCC’s Department of Educational Outreach has been taking registration for the Fall 2015 semester on the road with special recruitment rallies set up throughout the institution’s five county service area.

CCC has seven off-campus evening sites, located in Charleston, Marks, Tunica, Mound Bayou, Rosedale, Shaw and Webb that conveniently offer an average of 20 courses each semester. In an effort to make registration more convenient for new and current CCC students, the Department of Educational Outreach set up registration tents in high-traffic areas within the respective communities.

“It’s been good—we’ve done seven rallies and all of them have been really great … In every county we’ve visited we’ve brought out Tiger Pride.” said CCC’s Director of Educational Outreach Letha Richards. “The response from the community has been great, and they’ve really supported us.”

During the rallies, as some community members completed registration, other alumni, city leaders and well-wishers of the College stopped by to simply say “hello” and fellowship with CCC faculty and staff.

In addition to displaying what CCC has to offer, hotdogs, hamburger, chips and cold drinks were available to the community.

“I think we’ve been really effective. Our ultimate goal is to come out here and recruit. We’ve had people coming up, filling out applications,” said Richards. “We’ve been working to get people up from their desks, out of their offices and into the community to recruit and share what their respective departments offer.”

Richards said she owes some of that success to her “No. 1”, all-star recruiting team.

“My team has been phenomenal. They’ve brought the energy to every single rally and they’re just exhausted now, but they keep pushing,” she said.

The month-long recruitment push wrapped up Monday night with a final evening registration event in Charleston, MS.
