Awards Day Students

Students, faculty and staff assembled in the Marion Reid Gym to celebrate graduating sophomores who proved to be exceptional Tigers over the course of their study at Coahoma.

Rising sophomores, students nearing the end of their freshman year, were also honored for being chosen the recipients of scholarships.

Preceded by an invocation, Miss Coahoma Community College 2018-19 J’Terrica Trotter greeted the campus community with a cheerful, warm welcome.

“We have gathered here not just to celebrate the achievements of the students here at Coahoma but also to give due regard to our values and morals which these awardees exemplify,” said Trotter.

She told the attentive crowd that the awardees’ goal-oriented qualities bring glory to the college.

Jerone Shaw followed up with remarks in which he recognized the community as well as President Towner for their monetary donations to CCC.

“We’d be remiss if we didn’t take the time to thank the community for contributions that are made to this institution every year,” Shaw expressed.

State Rep. and Alcorn State alum Orlando Paden presented the Beatta Carson Steward scholarship award on behalf of the North Delta Clarksdale Alumni Chapter of Alcorn State University to sophomore Speccial Nash. Rising sophomore Olivia Howard, who said she actually forgot that she filled out applications for the scholarships she won, made her way toward the front of the room amid applauses to receive the Norran Snerling Memorial Scholarship as well as a scholarship award from the Clarksdale-Marks Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Representatives of various Academic and Career-Tech departments presented awards to students for excellent academic performance.

Jerone ShawShaw closed out the program encouraging freshmen to continue the standard of academic excellence reached by sophomores of Coahoma’s 2019 graduating class.

Shaw said, “Those of you who are freshmen, who will be sophomores next year, you need to make sure you continue to work hard…”
