Saint Lozon Ranson, a 2009 graduate of Coahoma Community College, is set to make his acting debut during the 27th Annual Pan-African Film Festival, February 7-16, 2019, in Los Angeles, CA. Co-founded by actor Danny Glover, the Pan-African Film Festival is the largest Black Film Festival in America. Last year, Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ was the talk of last year’s festival, which was graced with appearances by Chadwick Boseman and Angela Bassett. This year on opening night, the festival will pay tribute to Aretha Franklin. The screening featuring Ranson will follow. This opportunity comes exactly two years after Ranson gave a phenomenal performance in Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ as villain Iago. Stirring inspiration through his role as Shakespeare’s infamous ‘Iago,’ he was asked if he would be interested in starring in a possible film version of his performance. The following year, the film went into production and on January 1st, the birthdate of his late mother, Mary Ranson, Saint received the exciting news that his film had been accepted into Pan-African. The film was selected from more than 100 films across the nation.

The film is a modern depiction of William Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ that is set in the Black Panther era Los Angeles, 1969. Authorities have laid siege upon the Black Panther Party and killed General Othello’s most trusted lieutenant. The painful loss pushes the valiant leader to broker a truce with the police and direct his troops to serve their community. In aid of this peace, Othello appoints Cassio his new second-in-command, passing over Iago and leaving himself vulnerable to a secret campaign to reignite the violence. Boiling with jealousy and power-hungry narcissism, Iago sets in motion a devilish plan to expose Othello, Cassio and Othello’s secret wife, Desdemona.

Saint Ranson is a former Student Government Association president and member of the CCC Marching Tiger Band.

The title of the film is ‘IAGO’ with Ranson leading the pact as the infamous Iago. The screening dates are located on the Pan-African Film Festival website and tickets can also be purchased via PAFF’s website.
