Coahoma Community College is proud to announce its March 2018 faculty and staff Employees of the Month.

Kelvin TowersHonored as the faculty Employee of the Month is Kelvin K. Towers originally of Mound Bayou, MS.

Towers has been employed with Coahoma for 14 years; serving as director of Choral Activities and Music Department Chair. During his tenure, he has grown the CCC choir into a nationally acclaimed treasure.

“I enjoy building great music programs. I also like to share words of inspiration to the faculty & staff members of the Music Department as we work to breed something that is unique and special here at Coahoma,” said Towers.

When Towers isn’t at CCC, he serves as the director of Music at Mount Olive M.B. Church of Mound Bayou. He recently recorded his own arrangement of “A Change is Gonna Come “by Sam Cook for an international documentary that aired on a TV station in the United Kingdom.

Towers serves as a clinician and adjudicator throughout that state and was recently named to lead the Hinds County Honors Choir for their annual conference later this month.

Kelvin believes in the potential of the students here at Coahoma; finding it rewarding to develop raw talent.

“I must admit that it is very challenging to develop novice singers; crafting them into a choir that maintains an impeccably established reputation,” said Towers. “Wherein Alabama, a state that expects a National Championship each year, it feels the same way every time our choir steps on the stage. For now, I still accept those challenges. Lol!”

Towers enjoys the camaraderie and closeness that the faculty & staff share with one another. He believes that at Coahoma everybody is somebody.

“No matter of status, accolades or number of degrees earned; we here at CCC will tell you to like it really is,”said Towers. “We keep it REAL! It is very humbling therefore you are able to be yourself.”

Towers received his bachelor of music education from Mississippi Valley State University, master of music degree in music & doctoral studies from University of Mississippi (ABD).

Linda WilliamsHonored as CCC’s staff Employee of the Month is Linda Williams of Lambert, MS.

Williams has been by CCC for three and a half years; serving as assistant to the dean of Academics.

Linda is dedicated to providing support services to ensure her unit fulfills its vision and mission.

“What I like most about my job is fulfilling my responsibilities which includes keeping things flowing, making sure that those basic needs of the dean and within our department are met,” said Williams. “Accomplishing the needs of our students both academically and personally play a great role of responsibilities.”

Being a product of Coahoma gives Linda a vested interest in the institution's success.

“Being a past graduate of Coahoma Junior College, I understand the opportunities it provided to our community, and even now I am blessed to return home to be an added light to our institution,” said Williams.

She is motivated by knowing that she is able to provide successful assistance to current students, future students, and her department. Her goal every day is to strive in pushing herself to the next level.

Williams is married to Milton R. Williams, Sr.  They have three children, Milton, Kevie, and Shalynda.  Williams is a member of Smith Chapel where her husband is the pastor.
