CCC holds Presidential Scholars Awards Program

Presidential Scholars 2018

With proud family, friends, and CCC faculty and staff in attendance, Coahoma Community College honored nearly 30 Presidential and Dean List Scholars at its Annual Presidential Scholars Awards Program.

The event, designed to reward and recognize the efforts of those students who have maintained exemplary grades took place in the Magnolia Room - Zee A. Barron Student Union. Presidential Scholars were identified as those individuals maintaining at least a 3.76 grade point average (GPA) and students maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA were recognized as Dean Scholars. The students were presented with a commemorative certificate and medal (Presidential Scholars).

Kierre Rimmer served as guest speaker and addressed the crowd of onlookers; challenging them to change their perception of life and self.

“You don’t have to ask anyone’s permission to be valuable. You are presidential,” said Rimmer. “Everything about you should say presidential. Not just because of your awards here, but when you leave here have a presidential mindset. The way you walk, talk, dress, and carry yourselves should always be presidential.”

Dr. Valmadge Towner, President of Coahoma Community College, congratulated the students on their success and told them that this is only the start in their journeys.

“You have done an exemplary job and should be commended for where you are right now,” said Towner. “Do not take it lightly. It is not easy to do what you have done and your achievements will stand anywhere. You can do this wherever you go from here.”

The ceremony is one of many scheduled for this Spring semester; leading up to the 66th Commencement Exercises on May 12, 2018.
