Coahoma Community College Named MBS 2017 Best Community College of the Year

FLOWOOD, Miss. – Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) held their annual meeting and awards presentation on Thursday, January 25, at their headquarters in Flowood. Mississippi Blood Services knows that blood donors are the essential ingredient of the organization. All the state of the art equipment, a fleet of coaches, and the biggest building on the street are useless without blood donors.  MBS takes one night out of the year to recognize those groups and individuals who put in that extra effort to ensure there is an adequate and safe blood supply for Mississippi’s patients.

Coahoma Community College has been holding blood drives with Mississippi Blood Services since 2000. In recent times, the number of donors was dropping, so Chairperson Angela Reynolds decided to do something about it. She met with MBS Recruiter, Dawn Woods, and came up with a strategy to increase donor registration and units collected. In their fall blood drive, they did just that and registered 68 donors. This was quite an increase from their spring blood drive. Coahoma Community College is the MBS 2017 Community College of the Year. Representatives of Coahoma Community College were unable to attend the MBS function.

Dawn Woods, MBS Marketing Representative presented the award to Angela Reynolds, Coahoma Community College Science Instructor and blood drive chairperson, at a later time.
