CLARKSDALE – Coahoma Community College is saddened by the loss of former vocational instructor Vernon Green Sr.

Green passed away Jan. 24, 2017.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Westhaven Funeral Home Chapel, located at 3580 Robinson Road in Jackson, MS.

Green worked at the former Coahoma Junior College in the 60s and 70s. He played an integral role in the Vocational Department as a drafting and design instructor.

“Long before I began attending school or working at Coahoma Community College, the name of Mr. Vernon Green rang positively in and around campus due to the positive contributions he tendered to the college,” said CCC President Dr. Valmadge Towner.

Henry Dorsey of Clarksdale, one of Green’s colleagues during his time at CCC, remembers him fondly.

“He was a very nice person,” Dorsey said. “He was very easy to get along with and work it.”

According to Towner, the contributions Green made at CCC will be long remembered.

“Mr. Green joins the long and prestigious list of educators who labored, enlightened and molded the minds of students attending Coahoma. We are posthumously appreciative to Mr. Green and his family,” he said.

Green was 71-years-old.
