CLARKSDALE – Coahoma Community College’s Emergency Medical Technology (EMT)/Paramedic Department is partnering with the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) to host a free training for area healthcare workers Tuesday, Feb 7.

Hosted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Robert G. “Brick” Mason Health Sciences Building (901 Ohio Ave., Clarksdale, MS), the training, entitled "Triage Tuesday", is designed to teach those in emergency medicine how to sort out patients based on the seriousness of their injuries to ensure that those most in need receive prompt treatment first.

The class is open to all healthcare workers at no cost, and those participating will be eligible to receive 6.5 continuing education hours.

According to CCC EMT Program Director Rhett Nelson, the training will consist of both lecture and hands-on activities.

“We will host the class portion in the morning and end with that afternoon by providing participants the opportunity to put their new skills to the test during a mock disaster,” said Nelson.

CCC is hosting the event to help assist UMMC and MSDH in efforts to recruit participants in Northwest Mississippi, Nelson said.
