CLARKSDALE –Coahoma Community College is proud to announce its February 2017 faculty and staff Employees of the Month.

Honored as the faculty Employee of the Month is Jeremy Pittman of Grenada, Mississippi.

Pittman has served as a Business/Computer Information Service (CIS) instructor in CCC’s Division of Academic Affairs since 2005. He also serves as the coordinator of CCC’s Honors Program.

He received an associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Holmes Community College; a bachelor’s degree in Management/ Computer Information Systems and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Delta State University; and a master’s degree in Information Science Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.

In addition, Pittman is an inaugural graduate of the Mississippi Black Leadership Institute as well as a graduate of the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy.

According to Pittman, his students are his motivation.

“I enjoy seeing my students come to new realizations about the world around them,” he said. “It’s always rewarding to see former students who have done well for themselves.”

He is humbled to be named the faculty Employee of the Month.

“I was very surprised,” Pittman said. “I just try to do the best that I can do every day to help our students achieve their goals and desires. It’s all about the students—not about me.”

Outside of work, Pittman enjoys traveling, reading, and playing a competitive game of spades.

Honored as CCC’s staff Employee of the Month is Nekedra Blockett of Cleveland, MS.

Blockett has served as the career pathway navigator for the CCC Workforce Development Center’s MI-BEST program since Jan. 2016.

She received her bachelor’s degree in social science, a master’s degree in counseling, and her educational specialist from Delta State University. She also holds a master’s degree in counseling studies from Capella University.

Blockett said helping students achieve their dreams is what she enjoys most about her job.

“I love being able to interact with the various departments on campus and working with them to help our students be successful,” she said.

She said being named the staff Employee of the Month is motivational.

“I was shocked because I haven’t been here that long and just knowing that somebody is noticing me and my work ethic is very encouraging. …It makes me want to do even more to meet the needs of the students.”

Outside of work, Blockett enjoys spending time with her two daughters— one who’s in college and the other an avid cheerleader.

The purpose of CCC’s Employee of the Month program is to recognize and reward faculty and staff who exhibit work and behaviors that support and further the mission, goals, values and initiatives of Coahoma Community College.

Each Employee of the Month winner receives a picture, a designated parking spot, a shirt from CCC’s Bookstore, a hair style or cut courtesy of CCC’s Cosmetology/Barbering Department, marquee announcement and website recognition.
