CLARKSDALE – Coahoma Community College’s Social Science Department is helping to ensure local elementary students succeed in the classroom year round by hosting a mid-year school supply drive.

The school supply drive, happening now through the end of the month, is open to all CCC faculty, staff, students, alumni as well as community members who would like to contribute.

According to CCC’s Social Science Department Chair Barbara Boschert, the department thought the drive would be beneficial as by mid-year, many students run out of the supplies that were purchased at the beginning of school year and cannot afford purchase more—oftentimes leaving teachers in a financial bind.

“This is the time of year that teachers often reach deep into their own pockets to make sure their students have supplies. Otherwise, many of the students would have to do without,” Bsochert said.

Boschert said the drive is a great opportunity to show their support and give back to community.

“It’s an opportunity for us to help these students get off to a good start academically as well as eliminate feelings of self-consciousness for students who don’t have their supplies for whatever reason,” Boschert said.

To contribute to the drive, drop off school supplies such as pencils, paper, glue, crayons, hand sanitizer, and tissue to any instructor in the Social Science Department.

For questions, or for more information, contact Boschert at (662) 621-4677 or bboschert@coahomacc.edu.
