CLARKSDALE – Lovers of art and Coahoma Community College students interested in pursuing an art degree were given the opportunity Wednesday to network and learn more about art programs at some of Mississippi’s top universities during the first Mississippi College Art Program Portfolio Day.

Hosted by CCC’s Fine Arts Department in the Barron-Miller Fine Art Center from 9 a.m. until the noon, the event, held in conjunction with the annual Student Art Exhibition, was also an opportunity for CCC Art majors to showcase some of their own creations as well as see works from instructors and students at universities.

“The purpose of this event was to provide art majors an opportunity to talk with faculty and representatives from 4-year institutions across the state and to introduce CCC’s Art Department in a more expanded manner to general education majors so that they could consider art classes or pursuing an art major here at Coahoma,” said CCC Art Instructor Brad Bernard.

Those universities represented at the event included: Mississippi State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Delta State University and William Carey University — they all were visibly impressed by the talent and skill level of the students.

“It’s the beginning of wonderful relationships that CCC can further establish with 4-year institutions in the state,” Bernard said.
