Library Labor Day Display

Academic Affairs Dean Rolanda Brown and the CCC library staff urge all students and members of the campus community to stop by the main floor (2nd Floor) of the Dickerson-Johnson Library to view the timeline of the Labor Day holiday.

Visitors of the display can see how the topic of labor conditions changed overtime, from its inception during the year 1619 when a determination for change led to a strike in Jamestown, Virginia, until the 2000s.

Sweatshop work conditions, civil rights and gender equality are a few of the matters that have been brought to the forefront of the movement. The display also informs visitors of the most recent law signed by former president Barack Obama in 2009 to green light an important women’s right—the right to sue over pay discrimination.

The bulletin board and computer set up of historical information with accompanying visuals has been placed near the front desk of the library. Recently authorized for the 2019-2020 term, a series of exhibits will continue to be created in the following months to commemorate all proceeding calendar holidays celebrated in America.
