With newly elected officers, the Coahoma Community College Honors College is looking forward to an impactful academic year. According to Honors College director Jeremy Pittman, the hand-picked group of scholars plans to make a heightened effort toward involving their peers in issues of relevance in today’s society.

During the 2019-2020 school term, the Honors College anticipates leading a homelessness awareness campaign, a voter registration drive and a sickle-cell awareness event.

The elite student organization has selected sophomore Dynasty Latham, a business administration major from Mound Bayou, Mississippi, to serve as president. Freshman Kym Bailey, a Madison Shannon Palmer High graduate, currently majoring in pre-nursing at Coahoma, is the new vice president. Clarksdale native Aasiyah Wright, who is also a freshman pre-nursing major, was recently elected the Honors College secretary.

"I am extremely proud of these students in our program. We have a total of 15 students, and all are engaged inside of their communities,” said Pittman.

“I am hopeful for a great year working with some of our top students at Coahoma Community College."
