First Lady's Tea Party

A fashion-forward dress code. Headpieces. Poise. These aspects combined are indicative of a traditional tea party. For Homecoming 2019, the customary ladies-only event, set for September 24, 2019, will formally integrate CCC First Lady Natasha Towner into the Coahoma Community College community.

Student Engagement Director Karen Done says, “We are excited, the Division of Student Engagement, to host, in conjunction with Coahoma’s first lady, Mrs. Towner, our First Lady’s Tea. This is an exciting time to host area queens from our area feeder schools from all of our counties—Coahoma, Bolivar County, Tunica, Tallahatchie, Quitman.”

According to Done, all crowned queens—all of the College’s former Miss CCCs and homecoming queens, current high school queens, middle school queens, elementary school queens, and head start queens from CCC’s five-county service area are urged to attend.

“It is a luncheon, but there are some things we want you to come and see,” says Done. “It’ll be an opportunity for women to share best practices with younger ladies. We want all ladies to see the queen in themselves. We’re excited to partner with our first lady.”

Mature ladies in the community and older alumnae will share what it means to be a lady in 2019, Done added. Her aim is that the event will be instituted as an annual tradition to empower young women. She is asking attendees to wear classy, breezy dresses, formal hats, and gloves, if desired.

CCC alumnae and women of the campus community who would also love to participate are invited as well. “May we know strong women; may we be strong women and may we raise strong women” is chosen as the thematic mantra embodying the essence of the event.
