WOWCoahoma’s Division of Student Engagement invites the entire CCC student body to its annual Week of Welcome (WOW). Day-to-day events during WOW will consist of a range of activities and social events for students. The celebration is slated to take place September 4-6, 2018.

“Welcome Week will be one of the most exciting and fast-paced times on Coahoma's campus,” says Karen Done, director of Student Engagement.

The Coahoma Community College campus community will ease into the full schedule of spirited gatherings with an ice cream social combined with a set up of information tables educating students on the various clubs and organizations created just for them. It will begin at 11 a.m. on the Wellness Center Plaza on Tuesday, Sept. 4, after Monday’s Labor Day holiday. The day will end at the James E. Miller Stadium. The football field is where the campus is invited to cozy up under their blankets on the 50-yard line to watch an entertaining movie on the jumbotron. Free snacks, popcorn, and drinks will be available at the screening.

The Career and Technical Education department will continue the celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 9:00 a.m. by cheering on CTE students with a Retention Rally. Faculty and Staff members aim to encourage students to stay on their educational path until completion. Fan Day at the Zee A. Barron Student Union will follow, offering all the right tools to keep the cheery momentum going on campus. At this event that is set to start at 11:00 a.m., students have the perfect opportunity to get crafty in the creative sidewalk painting and sign-making projects. At the same location, motivational speaker and “Where Are You?” author Sharon Shavers Holt plans to display her talent of empowering others through an enlightening lecture at 7 p.m.

Student Engagement staff members also want to host a “Maroon & White Merge Party” to show young freshmen the exciting, fun side of college. Sophomores will kick it off at 8:00 p.m. in the Tiger Pit by interacting with freshmen in a Meet and Greet session.

The two classes will then battle it out in games and chants. They will conclude the night with a casual party in the courtyard.

Thursday’s close to the WOW activities includes a video game truck visit to our campus where students will prove they are masters with game controllers. 'Game Day' is an opportunity for students to get pepped for the evening’s football game by donning their favorite maroon and white wear and face paint, thus preparing for the Tigers’ win against the Bulldogs from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

“Not only will you meet many of the students, faculty, and staff who make up the Tiger family, but you will also learn your way around campus and begin to make Coahoma Community College your home,” said Done.
