Recently, Coahoma’s Student Government Association was officially sworn into their respective roles in a formal pinning event.
The Coahoma Community College Student Government Association is a democratically elected group of students who advocate on behalf of the student body. Coahoma is a truly wonderful place, and every member of the SGA works to improve the Coahoma experience. To accomplish this, the SGA transforms goals into realities.
This pinning ceremony signified that the administration of this institution is confident in your pinnacled scholarship, leadership, and determination to enhance the services and programs for the student body that you serve.
The organization strives to maintain programs and policies that work well in the community and to revise those that don't. This involves increasing student communication, promoting awareness of campus policies, and providing representation to the Board of Trustees and the Administration. Ultimately, the SGA is the voice of the student body.
Yolanda Miller, the executive assistant to the president, served as the keynote speaker. She encouraged the students and attendees to be themselves in a rousing speech. She placed a heavy emphasis on the love of one’s self.
“Be comfortable in your own skin. Be what you are created to be, not what others think that you should be,” said Miller. “Dare to be you!”
“Avoid negative people and those that won’t allow you to be you. Let negative people go, just like the passing of water, they will flow away,” Miller added.
The most important function of Student Government in the area of communication is to encourage the student body to formulate opinions and ideas on various matters of interest to them. Once such opinions and ideas are formulated, it is the task of the Student Government Association to convey those opinions and ideas to the faculty, staff, and administration, to engage in discussion on these matters.
