CLARKSDALE – Coahoma Community College is proud to announce its Sept. 2017 faculty and staff Employees of the Month.

Honored as the faculty Employee of the Month is CCC Sociology Instructor Vivian Williams.

A native of Moorhead, MS, Williams received a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Mississippi Valley State University and a Master of Science in Community Development from Delta State University. She is also a graduate of Mississippi State University’s Mississippi Leadership Academy.

Williams came to CCC in 2006 as an adjunct instructor and joined the faculty full-time in 2013.

“Teaching is not just a job to me—it is a career,” Williams said. “I am a life-long learner, and I am committed and dedicated to my task as an instructor to help our students become knowledgeable by empowering them with skills and instruction to be successful in their field of study.”

Williams said she is elated to be named CCC’s Employee of the Month.

“I'm always talking to my students about perception, to always do what is right because you never know who is watching you,” she said. “Someone has been paying attention to me and their perception of me was positive. …Thanks.”

Outside of work, Williams enjoys cooking and shopping.

Honored as the staff Employee of the Month is CCC Academic Counselor Yolanda Morton.

A native of Shelby, MS, Morton received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Tougaloo College and a master’s degree and educational specialist in Counselor Education from Mississippi State University. She is also a graduate of the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy.

Before joining CCC’s staff six years ago, Morton worked as a school counselor in the K-12 public school system for four years.

While she enjoyed working with elementary students, Morton said working with young adults and adults has presented its own unique set of challenges and rewards.

“I enjoy being 'that person' for so many of our students. 'That person' who they can turn to for questions and concerns and also 'that person' they can celebrate a hard earned 'A' with,” said Morton. “I also enjoy seeing students who, at one point, were unsure, unmotivated and disengaged turn a new leaf and graduate.”

Morton said she is honored and humbled to be named Employee of the Month.

“I love my work and the students that I get to serve,” she said. “To be recognized for merely doing what I feel I am called to do is an added bonus to an already rewarding job.”

Outside of work, Morton is an avid sports fan and enjoys everything from football and basketball to baseball and soccer. She also enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their three children, traveling, researching random facts, public speaking and writing narratives.

The purpose of CCC’s Employee of the Month program is to recognize and reward faculty and staff who exhibit work and behaviors that support and further the mission, goals, values and initiatives of Coahoma Community College.

Each Employee of the Month winner receives a picture, a designated parking spot, a shirt from CCC’s Bookstore, a hair style or cut courtesy of CCC’s Cosmetology/Barbering Department, marquee announcement and website recognition.
