CLARKSDALE – Coahoma Community College is proud to announce its Nov. 2016 Employees of the Month.

Honored as CCC’s faculty Employee of the Month is Shirley Ferguson-Hicks of Clarksdale, Miss.

Ferguson-Hicks serves as a cosmetology instructor for CCC’s Division Career and Technical Education. She has been employed at CCC for 23 years.

“I am very surprised and honored,” said Ferguson-Hicks. “It feels nice to be thought of and it makes me want to do more and continue putting my best foot forward.”

A CCC alumna, Ferguson-Hicks has worked as a licensed cosmetologist for nearly 30 years. Outside of work, she enjoys teaching in the Children’s Ministry at her church, Sunshine M.B. Church of Clarksdale, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Honored as CCC’s staff Employee of the Month is Charles Thomas of Clarksdale, Miss.

Thomas has served as a custodian, overseeing Friends Hall, since Jan. 2016.

“This was really unexpected. …It’s first time I’ve been recognized on the job like this, so I feel really special and appreciative,” said Thomas.

Thomas enjoys attending his church, New Morning Star Church of God in Christ, located in Cleveland, Miss., where he serves as the drummer. He also enjoys spending time with family.

The purpose of CCC’s Employee of the Month program is to recognize and reward faculty and staff who exhibit work and behaviors that support and further the mission, goals, values and initiatives of Coahoma Community College.

CCC faculty and staff can submit nominations. The nominee must be a full-time employee. A committee, chaired by CCC Director of Employee Services Michael Houston, is responsible for reviewing nominations and selecting a faculty and a staff honoree. The nominees are judged based on attitude and commitment, interpersonal skills, work performance, and personal traits.

Each Employee of the Month winner will receive a picture, a designated parking spot, a shirt from CCC’s Bookstore, a hair style or cut courtesy of CCC’s Cosmetology/Barbering Department, marquee announcement and website recognition.
