CCC coaches, pictured, were awarded the Gold Cup Trophy after winning the Maroon vs. White softball games against CCC faculty and staff members.

CLARKSDALE – In keeping with the 2016 homecoming theme, “Let the Games Begin”, Coahoma Community College’s Fit for Life program challenged employees to get active last week with the inaugural “Fit for Life Olympics.”

Over 50 CCC faculty and staff members participated in the event, which included tennis, hula-hoop, soccer, track and obstacle course competitions. The Olympics capped off with a Maroon vs. White softball game, where faculty and staff faced-off against CCC coaches.

According to CCC Fit for Life Program Director Letha Richards, the event, which served as the kick-off for the program’s Fall 2016 activities, was designed to get employees involved in fun fitness activities.

“We were very pleased with the excitement and competitive spirit that each participant brought on the field,” said Richards. “This was definitely a time for colleagues from different areas to get to know one another on a personal level … It was so much fun!”

In addition to bragging rights, winners of each competition received first, second, and third place medals.  The winners of the Maroon vs. White softball game received the coveted Gold Cup Trophy.

Richards said plans are in the works to make the Olympics a semi-annual event.

“Fit for Life would like to thank everyone who participated in our 2016 Winter Olympics,” she said. “Be on the look out for our 2017 Spring Olympics during Basketball Homecoming.”

CCC’s Fit for Life program was made possible through a grant provided by the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
