CLARKSDALE— “One Step at a Time.”

The Coahoma Community College family took to its new fitness track before Thursday night’s final home football game of the season to support survivors, those who are fighting, and to honor those who have succumbed to their fight with Breast Cancer.

Breast cancer is the second deadliest cancer for women in the United States. At Thursday night’s walk, many faculty, staff and community members walked to honor loved ones.

In conjunction with CCC’s new healthy campus initiative Fit for Life personal trainers led the 1-mile walk and the program’s nutritionist also used the event to educate those on hand about healthy eating habits and making healthy lifestyle choices. Students were also given the opportunity to setup future appointments with the Fit for Life staff for further counseling and education.

“We were very excited about the new Fit for Life program, and also about the participation we received in (Thursday) night’s Breast Cancer Walk,” said Healthy Campus Initiative Director Letha Richards. “This event highlights what it means to fight for a cure, what it means to advocate, and make certain that women understand they have to examine themselves, get mammograms, exercise, eat healthy and continue to be vigilant and educate others.”
